Picking Up a Pen: Beginning My Journey to Becoming a Writer/Author.

For a very long time I’ve known that I wanted to write. So much so that I added “Writer” to my Twitter bio when I hadn’t actually written anything. I guess you can say I was speaking it into existence.

The thought of writing had always simultaneously excited and daunted me. Excited because well, I was gonna be a writer. You know? like JK Rowling, John Grisham, Malcolm Gladwell and Mark Bowden. I’ve had grand visions of publishing deals, book signings and best sellers that give me goosebumps but I’ve never been able to sit down and actually write something. Which brings me to why writing had always daunted me (still does.) I’ve never been much of a risk taker and writing something that someone else, someone I didn’t know was going to read just seemed like a really big risk to take. It’s not like I’m a bad writer, I’ve always considered myself to be a good writer, I’ve had people say I’m a good writer even suggest that I should be a writer but my fragile self esteem just didn’t let me pick up a pen. But not anymore.

Having watched a lot of my friends start businesses or do things that they are passionate about recently, I took a good look at myself and asked myself what was stopping me from writing. I couldn’t come up with a good answer. So after weeks of painstaking research I’ve decided to pick up a pen or laptop in this case and enter the glamorous world of blogging and freelance writing.

While I was doing my research, something that kept coming up was finding my writing niche. Usually, your writing niche would be something you are knowledgeable or passionate about. After rigorous meetings with my own mind, I came to the conclusion that there was really nothing I was knowledgeable about. At least not enough to write about it and give some sort of convincing article or written work. Which left me with writing about things I was passionate about. Well that was easy, I only have four things I love doing; watching movies, listening to music, FOOTBALL!!! And reading books (fiction.) Unfortunately, I don’t feel like I have the bandwidth to write about or produce consistent quality content about music. Therefore, I would not be writing about music however, you can expect some Cinema and Tv content, Football reviews and probably some fictional work of my own.

I recently decided to watch all movies to ever win Best Picture at the Oscars so you can probably expect to see some articles or content about that soon and as the European football season progresses you can expect some pieces on the current trends in football and my inevitable frustration with Arsenal football club. My fictional work would come in the relatively distant future as that would require a lot more attention and time but it’s something that would definitely happen.

Well that’s it for this one, if you made it this far you have my utmost gratitude and appreciation. I’ll try not to disappoint you my readers and I really hope you guys like the stuff I’m about to put out. OMG! I’m so excited. So goodbye for now, see y’all soon.
